Kent Life Coaching: Tips for Thought

Winter's still with us and it's all too easy to allow yourself to get down.

Here are a few tips to help you through this time - in fact, they apply to any time - it's all to do with your attitude!

1. Happiness -  something we all aspire to, many achieve but how do you get there? First tip - get rid of anything, or anyone in your life who's draining your energy and resources. Anything from the lightbulbs you've been meaning to change for six weeks, to having the dent in your car mended, to that 'friend' who's draining you dry with their constant moaning and however much you listen and give 'advice' nothing ever happens...We are but human and looking after yourself first isn't selfish. You're no good to anyone else if you're exhausted with taking on their cares and worries whilst avoiding dealing with your own. As you realise your own worth and become 'lighter' by letting go of the unimportant things and dealing with the important ones, so your own mood will be enhanced - and see the effect on those around you! We cannot change others, but we can change ourselves.

2. Watch your thoughts - they become words. These words become actions which become habits. Habits become an integral part of your character and this becomes your destiny. By changing the way you speak to yourself (your 'self-talk') you can change everything else. If you believe you 'can' - you can. Conversely, if you believe you 'can't' then you can't. Everyone has a self concept - the beliefs, facts and opinions you have about yourself. Small positive shifts can result in huge overall changes. Try it - you might like it!

3. Declutter - like No 1 above, many people have too much 'junk' in their lives thereby leaving no space for anything new. Undoubtedly one of the easiest and most effective ways to attract something new into your life and to change your outlook is to create the space for it. After a long winter you may be feeling stuck, trapped, perhaps life seems a little lacklustre, energy levels low? Tackle a pile of clutter in your house, office or garage – even the garden needs attention after the winter! Decluttering your space will help declutter your mind,  allowing all those negative, unwanted and unneeded thoughts to disappear to be replaced by new, exciting, positive ones, giving you more time, more space, more energy.
